Today I want to talk about a short but exciting project our engineers were involved in.
In 2021, during the peak of the pandemic, we partnered with a Croatian startup on a large-scale project. The startup was working on an API that Uber would use to automatically report driver earnings to local tax authorities after each ride. This was a massive undertaking, with each country having separate tax reporting business logic.
Our team focused on analyzing the requirements for Quebec tax reporting. We worked closely with our partner to create a proof of concept application that validated all test cases, proposed architecture solutions, and created integration tests for Quebec and Hungary tax authorities. The project was entirely serverless and scaled on-demand, handling tens of thousands of tax documents from dozens of countries every second. It was directly consumed by Uber.
